Welcome to Children's Ministry
Immanuel is a place where children grow in faith!
For details of our various Children's Ministries:
Worship
Families are encouraged to worship with their children every week. We believe that worshipping together is the best way for children to learn how to worship God, to understand the rhythms of the Church Year, and to foster intergenerational relationships.
The 3rd Sunday of each month is "Everybody Worship Sunday." There is no Sunday School on these Sundays so that children who might not normally attend worship have the opportunity to do so.
Rainbow bags are available inside the Sanctuary. These bags of quiet activities help children through the more "adult" parts of worship and are available for use at any time. There are also two levels of children's bulletins available in the Sanctuary each Sunday.
Baptism
Baptsim is God's gift to each of us! In the Lutheran Church we believe that God's gift is available for even our youngest family members and that infants and children of any age are welcome at the font. We encourage families who are considering baptizing their infant to attend a Baptism Orientation scheduled through the church office.
Cradle Roll
Following the baptism of an infant, the child and his/her family will be placed on the Cradle Roll. Periodically, over a three-year period, parents will receive materials in the mail that give suggestions to support the early faith developement of their child.
Volunteers
Children's Ministry is a significant part of Immanuel's overall ministry. Volunteer opportunities are available for people of all ages and with varying amounts of commitment. If you feel led to become involved in Children's Ministry at Immanuel, please contact Kim Rathjen, Director of Chidren and Family Ministries, at the church office and we can discuss how you can serve God by serving children.
The life of faith is a process of incubation that requires “time, care, attention to detail, warmth, and nurture.” For many years we have tried to “incubate faith” through the teaching that a pastor or leader gives students during their Confirmation. This is the equivalent of a boiling, or frying an egg! Faith takes time to grow - faith is caught rather than taught - and the primary center for faith formation is the home as daily family members live out their faith. more...
